Solar contacts

I'm looking for people in the solar energy industry to talk to. I have an idea that could significantly reduce the cost of solar modules/panels. If you or someone you know works in the solar industry please drop me a line.

A first trip to China.

I'm gonna be offline until the end of the month as I travel to Shanghai, China. It will be my first time to China so I'm sure I'll be wowed by it all.

"Seeing" the energy wasted

I was talking to a friend about energy efficiency the other day and this friend commented on how much easier it would be if people could see how much money/energy they were wasting on items around the house they were not using. (Lights being one obvious example.)

While surfing the web today I thought I'd check to see what products could help one "see" the energy they were using. I did not find exactly what I was looking for, although this gizmo can do the trick on an outlet by outlet basis.

I was reminded of a talk I went to about a year ago, where the speaker speculated on how much more "responsible" Americans would be if they could see CO2 emissions.

Even cheaper CFLs!

LOL I have to stop looking at CFL prices! Everytime I look I see them cheaper than I paid the week before.
I went to Home Depot today and found a 4 pack of 25W (100W equiv) bulbs for $9.97. They also have a six pack of 14W (60 W equiv) for $9.97. So prices under $2.50 and $1.67 per bulb. A month ago I thought CFLs were 5-10 x as much as standard bulbs, now it seems clear that CFLs cost ~ 2-2.5x standard bulbs. The energy savings will pay for the $1-2 premium in a few months. This must be the cheapest way to help save our planet.
